Archaeological indexing

I have many years of experience in indexing archaeological monographs and periodicals.

Recent monograph indexes include:

Roger S O Tomlin, Roman London's First Voices: Writing Tablets from the Bloomberg Excavations, 2010-14 (Museum of London Archaeology, 2016)

Elaine Jamieson, The Historic Landscape of the Mendip Hills (Historic England, 2015)

Peter Murphy, England's Coastal Heritage (English Heritage, 2014)

I am the regular indexer for the international journal Post-Medieval Archaeology and for the county journals Sussex Archaeological Collections and Proceedings of the Cambridge Antiquarian Society.

I work regularly for Museum of London Archaeology (MOLA) and drew up their indexing guidelines.

I am happy to advise anyone thinking of becoming an archaeological indexer. Archaeological indexing requires specialist knowledge of all aspects of archaeology, including modern scientific techniques. It also requires a thorough grounding in general indexing principles.

To find out if you have an aptitude for indexing, have a look at the Society of Indexers' website. If you would like personal advice please contact me.
